The bigger picture

STCE was specifically set up to purchase the Twemlows solar farm and the group has ambitions to set up further, new community energy schemes in the local area. They are raising funds to complete the purchase of the fully operational Twemlows solar farm in Shropshire and bring it into community ownership. The Solar Farm:

  • has been operational since 2015 and is improving biodiversity on its site
  • has a maximum output of 10MW
  • is capable of powering around 3,400 homes, carbon-free
  • has total revenues over the next 18 years of around £28M
  • has been distributing at least £20,000 PA to a community benefit fund, which STCE will channel into community benefit initiatives, including more renewable energy projects.

  • STCE is part of Community Energy Together, a collaboration of five societies and seven solar farm assets which have been cross-collaterally financed. Each solar farm is being purchased by a local society, increasing the capacity of community-owned solar energy in England and Wales by about 20%.
