  • Help democratise our energy system by bringing this renewable energy asset into full community ownership.

The bigger picture

Kent Community Energy was formed in 2016 and is raising funds via this share offer to purchase the fully operational 5 MW Orchard 2 Solar Farm in the Kent countryside (in the UK’s sunniest county) into community ownership. The Solar Farm:

  • has an installed capacity of 5 MW
  • is capable of powering around 1,700 homes, carbon-free
  • mitigates around 1,165 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually
  • has been successfully supplying the national grid for several years
  • is expected to generate excess revenue of around £2 million over its lifetime that KCE will channel back onto community benefit initiatives, including more solar energy projects

  • Kent Community Energy is part of Community Energy Together, a collaboration of five societies and seven solar farm assets. Each solar farm is being purchased by a local society, increasing the capacity of community-owned solar energy in England and Wales by about 20%.
